Done With First Quarter!

I just finished my first nine weeks of 8th grade. I thought that this year would be really hard, but it was actually really easy. I’ve got some new teachers this year, and they are amazing! I finished this first quarter with all A’s.  My goal is to complete this entire year without getting a B. Wish me luck!

Wow! I can’t believe 500 people have seen my website. Just 2 weeks ago I had 440 views, which I was pretty excited about, but almost 100 people have visited my blog in less than 2 weeks! Thanks to everybody who has seen my site. I think it is really cool to see where in the world people who visited my blog are. Thanks for visiting and please feel free to leave comments and tell me how I can make my blog even better!

Back to School

So my school started on August 15. I know what your thinking. That’s so early! Trust me, I know! However, if they’re no snow days we get out in May. There’s been quite a few changes in school this year. With budget cuts, I’ve gotten some new teachers. They’re all really fun though. A few changes this year that I’ve had is that some classes I’m taking right now count for high school credits. So I have to do really well! I’m also now in Algebra HA Honers. Which just means that I’m doing 9th grade math even though I am in 8th grade.  The hardest change for me so far has been that I don’t have any classes with my best friends. I’ve met a lot of new people though and I still have lunch with them. Either way I’m looking forward to a great year! Keep coming back to read about all that’s been happening!

2011 Summer

Sorry I haven’t posted since last year! I have been enjoying my summer. This summer, I went to camp for the very first time and had a blast! I also did a ton of tennis. Three hours a day in the hot, HOT sun! Yet, it was awesome! We also had over 20 days of heat in the 90′s! It was the hottest summer for my state in a looonnnnnngggggg time. The summer went by way too fast because my school has started even earlier and we had to add extra days at the end of last year because of an ice storm during the winter. Oh well though! I can’t wait for another great year of blogging and school!

Done with Reading Challenge!

CC          The fourth book I read for my reading challenge was A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Carnivorous Carnival by Lemony Snicket. This is the ninth book in the series and is 286 pages long.

The book begins with the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, riding in the trunk of Count Olaf’s car (see the last book). They arrive at a place called the Caligary Carnival. They go and eavesdrop on Count Olaf”s conversation with a strange woman. She appears to be a fortune teller. They learn that her name is Madame Lulu and that she is the head of the carnival. They also learn that she has been having a hard time at her carnival because she need more freaks for her freak show. This gives the children an idea. They need the Snicket File, a file which may reveal if one of their parents are still alive and where they would be. The children think that Olaf and his troupe might know where it is. The children also hope of learning the true meaning behind the letters V.F.D.

The Baudelaires decide to dress up using the spare costumes in the back of Count Olaf’s trunk. Many of the items are too big, the children realize they can make themselves look like freaks and get hired at the Carnival. Violet and Klaus put on a big shirt that makes them look like a two headed person and Sunny wears a big beard that makes her look like a half wolf human.

The children do get hired and they began their investigation. They meet a hunchback name Hugo, a contortionist name Colette, and an ambidextrous “freak” name Kevin. Count Olaf ends up buying some lions and digging a pit for them. His plan is for one of the freaks to get thrown into to the pit of lions and get eaten. The audience finds this entertaining, the freaks however, do not.

The Baudelaires feel like something fishy is going on with Madame Lulu. Olaf says that she has been telling him where the Baudelaires have been hiding by using a magic crystal ball. They soon realize that it has all been a fake. She has a stack of books and papers underneath the table which holds the crystal ball. She is not who she says she is. She tells the disguised Baudelaires some information that will end up being life changing for them.

952 Pages Down, 248 Left to Go!

Unfortunate Series- Hostile Hospital         The third book I read for my reading challenge was A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Hostile Hospital  by Lemony Snicket. This is the eighth book in the series and is 272 pages long.

The book begins when the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, go into a convenience store in the middle of nowhere. They have just escaped from the town of V.F.D. (read the last book or look at the blog) and are now wanted because they are thought to have committed murder. When the manager of the store finally realizes who they are, the children hop into the back of a van. They learn that the people in the van are members of V.F.D. (Volunteers Fighting Disease). The van is headed towards a hospital called Heimlich Hospital. The volunteers do not recognize the children, so they feel safe, as long as they are hidden in this group.

The children find out that they can get information on the real secret of V.F.D. by visiting the hospital’s Library of Records. The children go down to help a man working there, only to find out they aren’t aloud to read the files. Pretty soon, Count Olaf and Esme Squalor ( Esme is mentioned in the 6th book) show up. They are looking for The Snicket File. The children have already found one page, which tells them that one of their parents might still be alive.  Count Olaf wants this file so that he can get rid of all evidence that the Baudelaires are not murderers and other secret information. However, Violet ends up getting captured. Klaus and Sunny make it out okay. Olaf wants to perform a surgery on Violet called cranioectomy. This will end up killing her.

Will Klaus and Sunny be able to save their sister. You can find out by reading this book. I recommend it to anyone. Before your read this book, make sure to read the other first 7 books so it makes sense.
